Lily's Birthday Dress

Lily's awesome mom Kate stopped by my sewing room one night with a mutual friend and a bottle of wine and we picked out some killer fabric combos. Kate commissioned me to create a birthday dress for Lily (size 3T) and matching ruffle pants (not shown, but in the sparrow apron fabric). Kate also had the wonderful idea for me to make her a matching belt from the dark brown Anna Maria Horner fabric (shown tied around the package). I love this fabric a whole bunch, by the way, the color of the brown is so sophisticated. Prefect for a hip mom.

Details about this dress:
The skirt is tied on in the back with it's own sash and is detachable. So if she wants to, Miss Lily can rock the apron over a pair of jeans. A more challenging style bodice to make compared to a knot dress. The sleeveless arm openings were finished with hidden bias tape so that the lining of the bodice would be completely enclosed. The whole thing has top-stitching everywhere.

The back is split and overlapped slightly where it meets the skirt. The top closes with a vintage button and elastic loop. The neckline features the bright orange accent fabric also used as the apron tie. This is the last of this versatile Erin McMorris Park Slope gem.

About the fabrics used:
The bodice and skirt hem are Sandi Henderson Meadowsweet. The skirt is Anna Maria Horner Innocent Crush. The apron is Joel Dewberry Aviary. The ribbon is Patty Young. All the big guns of quilting fabric design pulled together into one amazing dress. Lily is going to kill at her birthday party.
